Theory Assessment Instructions (Department of Transport)
- You will have 1 hour to complete a 40 multiple choice theory assessment, a score of 34 out
of 40 (85%) is required to pass. - If you answer between 30 and 33 questions correctly you may attempt a different set of
questions on the same day if time allows. - If you answer less than 30 you will need to sit the assessment on another day. A maximum
of two attempts are allowed in one day. - Note: A successful pass mark in your theory is required before you can proceed to the
practical component of the course.
Practical Assessment Instructions (Department of Transport)
There are a total of 11 tasks in the practical assessment. At the end of all the tasks the applicantmust obtain a result of at least 56 out of the 62 criteria (6 wrong or less) to pass.
Note: Department of Transport only permit 1 attempt at the practical assessment per day.
What To Bring On The Day
Before you even get started make sure you meet the minimum requirements:
- You must be over 14 years old.
- If you are under 18 you must have a letter of consent signed by your parent or legal guardian.
- Proof of Identity – a current Australian driver’s license or learners permit is required on the day.
- No Driver’s License – you must bring a completed eyesight form and provide 2 forms of identification. Examples of acceptable ID can be found on Page 8 of the RST workbook
- All forms are available to download in our resources tab including RST workbook.
- Payment can be made prior too or on the day.

If you don’t pass the assessment on your first attempt, don’t worry! We offer additional training sessions at no extra cost to help you improve and reattempt the assessment when you’re ready.
